Fabric haul!

Do you know the tale of the girl who needed bias tape? Spoiler alert: she bought way more than just bias tape…

I was in need of bias tape. I was working on a vest with bias bound edges and ran out with only centimeters left. That was a little disappointing.

However, it did give me an excuse for fabric shopping. As most sewists know, fabric shopping and sewing are two entirely different hobbies. Having to order bias tape on a website with countless fabrics and a website wide Black Friday sale made me feel like a kid in a candy store. I did not exactly hold back and ordered quite a bit more than just the bias tape. Let me show you what I ordered and what I intent to make with it.

Twill Peach stretch in petrol

I have seen this fabric on the website before but previously didn’t know what to make with it. When going through my purchased patterns, the Lockhart Jumpsuit by Helen’s Closet stood out, and it seems to be a great pattern for this fabric. The color is gorgeous (I’m a huge fan of anything petrol colored, but the color doesn’t come off well on the picture) and because it is slightly thicker and structured, I think it will work great for a jumpsuit.

Jersey Lurex in dark brown

I saw this sparkly jersey and thought it looked festive. With the holiday season approaching, it seemed like the perfect fabric to make a simple turtle neck or mock neck top. Though the top itself is simple, the fabric and sparks make it festive and something I could wear for Christmas at home. I have made the Mock Neck Top by Kiana Bonollo twice already (check my previous blog post!), and I intend to make another one with this sparkly jersey.

Viscose crepe in army green

I used this fabric in off white for my most recent Nicks Blouse by Closet Core and I love this fabric. This time, I got it in army green, a beautiful color! (again, the color doesn’t come off great, it’s way darker in real life) I’m not yet sure what I’ll make with it, probably a blouse or a dress, but I am excited to use this fabric again.

Denim stretch in sand

One of my favorite makes this year is the Falconer Pants by Helen’s Closet. I made it in a camel colored denim and I’m just in love with it. Of course, I have to make another pair and this sand color stretch denim looks perfect!

Cotton poplin in petrol/coral/white floral

I was part of the pattern testers for the Faye Blouse by Tammy Handmade. It is a great pattern with many options to mix and match. I made mine with a V-neck and 3/4 sleeves, but I think the round neck version with short sleeves would be super cute in a floral fabric. When I noticed this fabric, it had Faye written all over it, so I just had to get it.

Cotton poplin in cream/dark green/old pink floral

I thought the print on this fabric was just cute. Muted in color, simple, but cute. I do not have a pattern in mind yet, but chances are this will become a blouse or top. I’m keeping an eye out for the perfect pattern for this one!

Viscose twill in ochre with mice print

This farbic is just cute with the mice. It’s a color I don’t wear much but suits me well as an autumn. It’s quite drapey, so it doesn’t work for very structured garments. However, I think a light shacket (or something like a button up blouse worn open) would be a good fit.

Coating in dark red + lining in dark red & purple

I came across this beautiful wine red coating fabric that I added to my basket almost instantly. The color is just stunning! I know I want to make a coat, I just don’t know which pattern yet. I also bought lining in 2 colors. Why 2? Well, the coating fabric was listed as a bordeaux color, but the image looked dark purple, almost aubergine. So just to be safe, I bought dark red lining and purple lining. By the pictures online, the purple lining matches better, but in real life the dark red lining is a much better fit (though my picture makes it look more pink than it actually is). Anyways! A coat is coming, I just need to decide which one…

French terry in off white

A little while ago, I bought this adorable French terry with a fruit print. It was a coupon so I could not decide myself how much to take. I thought it was enough to make the Drew Sweatshirt by Tilly and the Buttons, but it wasn’t unfortunately. The sweatshirt comes in a color blocked version and I could fit the bodice and part of the sleeve on the fruity French terry, so I order a small bit of this plain French terry to be able to fit the remaining parts of the pattern.

Haberdashery

This whole shopping spree started with the need for bias tape, so I obviously got some bias tape. Apart from that, I got a zipper for the Falconer Pants in a very similar cream color. No big haberdashery hall this time.

I bought all of this at driessenstoffen.nl, a Dutch webshop that I use for most of my fabric shopping. This post is not sponsored in any way by them, this is just me sharing my fabric haul after.
