Christmas Sparks
Christmas at our home is quite a casual occasion. We dine, we chat, we play games, we laugh. The last 2 years we have cooked ourselves a nice three course dinner, but it has never been a gathering which required fancy wear or dressing up. While I was browsing through a fabric website, as one does, some brown sparkly jersey caught my eye. Quite surprising actually, because I’ve never been the person to wear many sparkly things. Yet the fabric spoke to me and I could see this turn into a festive top. So it was added to my basket and delivered a little while later.
Like I mentioned, Christmas does not require me to dress up, so I decided to make a turtleneck top from the fabric. Casual, something I wear all the time, but just a touch festive. I already had the perfect pattern for this, because I recently sewed 2 turtleneck tops using the same pattern from Kiana Bonollo.
The top is super simple to make and comes together very quickly. I sewed a size S and added ±3cm to the hem and ±3cm to the mockneck collar. I did not time the project, but I think it took me about 1,5-2 hrs to make.
I loooove the result! The top fits really well, which was no surprise, but something in the fabric makes it even nicer. I’m not really sure how to put it, but I just like this top the most out of the 3 I have sewn from this pattern. The added length to the bottom was a good call, but since I tuck in these tops it doesn’t make that much of a difference. I like how the slighlty longer collar turned out. The height is now between the mockneck and the turtleneck and I really like how it sits on this fabric. The sleeve hems and bottom hem are a little wonky, because the fabric didn’t press well and I just wanted the top to be finished, but you can hardly tell anyways, so that stay between us, okay?
What’s maybe even the best thing about this top, is that I sewed it as a festive, special occasion top. However, it is still quite casual and not too over the top sparkly, so I’ll happily wear this on a day-to-day basis too! Way to get more use out of a garment!
